Dental decay detection
Dental decay detection allows the dentist to identify and remove the outer, unsavable infected dentine while minimising the loss of the inner savable soft dentine.

Optimally, the outer dentine should be removed while maximum inner non-infected dentine is preserved.

If softness and discolouration are used as the only guide to caries removal, excessive inner non-infected dentine will also be removed. This can weaken and deepen the cavity unecessarily leading to excessive tooth sensitivity and possible future pulp (nerve) problems.

The dental decay detection technology used at Stella Maris Dental ensures that all the outer infected dentine is completely removed and the maximum amount of the protective inner dentine is preserved.

The benefits to Stella Maris Dental patients from the above technology are:

  • Peace of mind that all decay is removed from infected teeth.
  • Reduced tooth sensitivity.
  • Reduced possibility of nerve (pulp) infections in the future.
  • Stronger teeth.
  • The dentist is not relying on his / her clinical experience only, but on a scientifically proven method of caries detection.
